Internet Marketing Mentoring Coolness Bar None

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Our great friend, Janet Giacoma, will soon be opening a brand new blog (domain as yet undetermined), but I just had to share what I consider the coolest advertising picture around.

What makes this even cooler than just the graphics alone is this woman knows her stuff. Every statement she makes is true, and knowing her personally, I can testify to the fact that she works her buns off (for herself and for you) and does still find the time for leisure (fun!) pursuits – and she even has time for Meals on Wheels each Wednesday.

Marketers like Janet Giacoma and Maureen Heiden (to name just two) are just “common folks” like the rest of us. They are beating the system not through magic or pie in the sky programs (where the sky falls and hits you hard), but by pulling through using their sheer determination to win, in combination with a large amount of brain power, research, and know how  – to attain their goals.

What sets these two apart and prompted this post is they both have one thing in common – a plan.

Not just a “keep it in the back of your head and pray the fairy godmother will fulfill your wishes” plan, but a true sense of fair business, techniques that work, and – most importantly – the willingness to share their knowledge with others.

Too many out there are selling you outdated junk, stuff they’ve long overused and now wish to turn a buck selling to you. If it’s not overused software, it’s ridiculous ebooks that common sense alone – or heck just taking a wild guess at – would have brought you to the same resources and/or conclusions.

While I highly advocate finding the right internet marketing mentor, I strongly advise finding… the RIGHT internet marketing mentor.

So enjoy the really cool photo shoot (go ahead click on the picture.), and drop by these two women and say hi. You won’t be sorry.

But before you go don’t forget to comment or you’ll miss out on free marketing for yourself!

Do You Know The One Small Mistake That Has Huge Disastrous Results?

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I’ve known Melanie Milletics for a while now (list building secrets), and I’ve been hanging onto a notice of hers called, “What is a Magic Blog Post?” for a few days.

Today is the day I made the time to go read (and you should, too).

There are certain vital points she makes that really impact your posts (or your website for that matter) that I won’t rehash, she’s stated them quite nicely. However, I did notice a glaring what I’ll call “mistake” within her post. A mistake I see way too many web site and blog owners make – not coding their click-able links to open in new windows!

Such a small thing, with such huge implications!

When you are reading, and someone mentions a resource or reference to even more information (and assuming you are really interested), ten to one you’re going to click that link (like above) – which is also what I (and anyone else with common sense) is praying that you will do – it’s there to be clicked for a reason.

Yet after you click on it, do you think I want you to disappear for good? Of course not! I want you back to either finish up reading and/or to take the time to look around (use the search bar on this blog), watch the videos (there are even more “how to’s” in the right hand sidebar on a wide range of topics, that’s just one example), and (of course) COMMENT about what you’re reading.

So that simple bit of code – your “target” to open in a new window or blank window is critical.

You work hard to get your visitor, don’t let them just slip through your fingers. The coding is:

target=”_blank”

To see it in action, just right click anywhere on this page outside the framework of the blog itself (in other words pick a “white area” even if it’s colored, but doesn’t have words) and View Source (in IE) or View Page Source (in Firefox).

o  Go up under EDIT on your browser (very top)

o  Choose FIND and type in Milletics (it’s unique and only mentioned once on this page – okay twice but this one doesn’t count there’s no link involved)

o  Now look closely at the coding just prior to her name.

See how the code is put together? See the “target” part?

You can hand code this yourself in HTML or if you are a Wordpress blog user, from the what-you-see-is-what-you-get view, just highlight the words, click on the little chain to make the link, and then select TARGET (new window).

Website owners you really need to do this, too.

It’s actually very sad to me when I see someone just willingly giving up their visitor. Don’t make me hunt to get back to you!

Do You Obsess About Failure?

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

It’s strange how ideas and thoughts just come into a person’s head. It’s going on midnight here, but I suddenly had the crazy idea to make a post.

There’s a reason behind my midnight madness, and my topic about “failure.”

First off, I talk to and email a ton of people who habitually choose the wrong things to promote online. It’s like they are magnets for what’s absolutely wrong for them to be doing. And, unfortunately, you can’t seem to stop them – common sense just goes in one ear and out the other.

But this also isn’t a post about picking on people. What I thought about was the idea of failure and what having thoughts of failure can do to a person.

Individually, we’d all love to never fail. But it’s also unreasonable not to assume that somewhere, somehow in your life you’ll never run up against a brick wall.

It’s times like that when Edison should come to mind – with his 1000 or 2000 attempts at making the light bulb. Or if Edison doesn’t come to mind, you’d do well to know that he never considered all those attempts failures, just how not to make a light bulb.

Positive twist!

The law of attraction and attracting wealth (be it whatever you perceive wealth to be) is and has been for quite a while now a big deal online. Lots of books, tons of websites, numerous blogs… all geared toward the positive thought that yes thoughts are things. And what you think (or praise or condemn) directly impacts your life and the lives of those around you (and yes, around the world).

We’d all do well to think more positively.

What this is all leading up to is… politics. Yes, this isn’t a political blog, but you’ll notice if you go back through the archives that that doesn’t always stop me from writing what I think or feel or have to say.

This is one of “those” moments.

I’ve been hearing for weeks now all about the “Party of No” – the Republicans. And about how very proud they are to wish the President fails, and directly influenced by that failure our very government.

Now there’s a positive thought (yes sarcasm in case you didn’t recognize it right off the bat).

Why in the world would you hope anyone fails? You most certainly don’t (I hope) sit at your computer day in and day out saying, “I’m the party of failure, I’m going to purposely fail and be a great failure online.”

Sounds ridiculous because it is ridiculous.

We all hope and pray that our efforts pay off – be they more income online or just a modicum of success at being online.

Let’s take that same attitude up several notches. Forget party affiliations and start putting our positive thoughts, our positive energies into turning this country (and the world) around. It’s not a matter of one side winning or one side losing. For god’s sakes, grow up!

If you’re not familiar with the 100th monkey story, I suggest you click that link right now.

Hopefully you will be happily surprised. Real change is possible for those who truly reach out for it. Be a reacher!

And may your days start and end with success!

The Internet Has No Secrets (Traffic or Otherwise) – Or – When To Stop Buying Into Things And Just Do It

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

NOTE: Before you get going, the title of this post is “secrets” not “methods.” People come up with all sorts of new ways of doing things, and open all sorts of new social media areas, and we give credit where credit is do. But they aren’t “secrets.”

* * * * * * * * * *

For years, and I do mean years, we’ve been online explaining, demonstrating, and, in many instances, doing the hands-on work to help you be successful online.

And, throughout these years, we – like you – have been (and continue to be) inundated with special reports, new software, e-books, videos and more all ranting and raving how this is “the one.”

Rarely is anything “new.”

Let me explain by example before I continue:

Ten years ago, a script was developed that (more…)
