I just witnessed something so strange I had to write to tell you about it!
We have two cats, Sammy (a Persian stray) and Sweetie (a Siamese also a stray). Sammy is the sweetest cat you’d ever want to meet. Even my father thinks so, and he’s not cat lover lol!
Sweetie is also just that, only she’s got a bit of the devil in her. While she can, and does roam, the neighborhood (never too far), Sammy has supervised walks outside since some s.o.b. declawed him way back when and then abandoned him.
Okay, enough preamble…
Just now I was at the back of the house looking out the slider, and Sweetie had just stepped every so carefully around me to go out to lay by the pool. Or at least I thought that was her objective. Then suddenly I hear her making soft, sweet, consistent “calls.” Thinking something might be wrong I stood very still to try to discern what sort of sound this might be. I didn’t have to wait long (and her eyes are much sharper than mine). There was a dove perched on the wall and she was IMITATING the bird, as she crept closer and closer. The bird almost appeared to be waiting patiently for her arrival! (Yikes!)
Well, of course, I stepped in and put a nix to that, but wow! Hypnotic or what??
(Maybe this is where I throw in how to NOT be hypnotized into false beliefs online when it comes to marketing…?? Sorry couldn’t resist!)
As for arcades… Later today, I’m taking two 17 year olds and a 16 over to the Las Vegas strip to our local GameWorks. My son turned 17 on Wednesday and they are all impatient to go spend money like there’s no tomorrow playing even more games then they all typically play in a week’s time cramped into a few hours
It’s very odd to think your kids (or kid in my case) can attain such a great age in such a short amount of time!
As for what’s coming up…
We’ll be writing about several other marketing methods and services we are using that are building our backlinking to this blog in record speed (see yesterday’s post for one) this coming week.
Granted, I’m sort of jumping around here, so in closing on this gorgeous Saturday I just want to slip one fine point in here. By now you have got to have read about and been advised repeatedly (not only here but everywhere - blogs and static websites alike) - of the fine art of building your business (blog or website or…) by using blog COMMENTING to your advantage.
Yet I sit here shaking my head. I visit a TON of blogs daily for ourselves and our clients, and while I do not comment on all of them, I would say on average I manage at least 10 comments per day. Good, well thought out, or hearty thank you comments. Yes I have the Google PR and Alexa Rank plugin on my trusty Firefox, but it does not keep me from posting ANYWHERE I really appreciate the information I’ve received. Whether it’s a cute/funny picture, a resource I needed more information about, or just a person’s “this is how my life is going,” taking the time to comment does MORE THAN build backlinks, it helps (and lets) other people know YOU exist.
Don’t let this wonderful opportunity continue to slip through your fingers. A comment a day - three minutes of your time - and you will be AMAZED at the results - yes with just ONE comment a day!
How easy can that be???
Enjoy your Saturday!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHave a stray named “Flicted” for a variety of reasons but an absolute birder along with a mole catcher. Cats are very patient when it comes to getting their prey.
I am looking forward to the upcoming events. Have fun with the 17 year olds!
I enjoyed this post. I love commenting and cats!

@Linda - you never know what presents you’re going to get. Had to chase down a mouse the other night oh joy! Got him though and released him back into the wilds of Las Vegas LOL!
@Heidi - cats, dogs, love ‘em all! Wish I had a bigger place really. The people who start “preserves” (my mind is a blank what they are called) are to be admired.
And thanks for commenting to both of you!
Cats are such funny independent creatures. I think I want to move to Vegas. Sounds like you are doing great on your backlinking. I’m still learning about everything but its so exciting.

So true, I try to comment many times a day, and get lots of comments in return. A simple thing, reaps many benefits. In fact, i’m doing it right now, to some extent!

That’s amazing that your Siamese cat was imitating a bird! Siamese are known for being great talkers, but I’ve never heard of one imitating a bird before. That’s incredible! Did you happen to record it?! That’d be a cute thing to put on your blog!
BTW, we used to have a cat named Sammy too!
That’s back when we only had one cat. But now we’ve got two, just like you. One is a very talkative Siamese named Cleo & the other is a Balinese named Java — Due to their similar coloring, they almost look like brother & sister, (except Java has longer hair!) & often act like it too!
) Isn’t it great to have more than one cat?! — After having two, we’ll never go back to having just one. It’s much better for the cats if you’ve got more than one. Keeps them socialized & much more flexible in their attitude towards other pets & humans. Especially if you decide to eventually add more to the brood, whether they be human or “furry humans” in cat/dog-suits.
Plus, They can be each other’s pals & keep each other company when you’re out of the house.
Well, thanks for sharing your stories! You should post a picture of your cats along with your story. That’d help draw people in to your article! Just a suggestion.
Speaking of which, if you’d like to mark me as a friend on Flickr &/or see photos of my cats, just do a search on “cyberpenguin.” Or, even easier, just visit any of my blogs & click on the appropriate Flickr link shown on the Wink widgets at the bottom of any of my blogs.
Cheers,
Cyberpenguin (a.k.a., your pal from SpicyPage!)

@sogeshirts Vegas is actually a pretty cool (metaphorically speaking) place to live, if we don’t run out of water
@cavyl the one thing we can never get tired of emphasizing the wow of the small act of commenting. Blogging and commenting not only go hand in hand, but really other than a forum setting, where else can you put your two cents in easily on someone else’s website? Sure you’ve got the social media communities (which are great) but the idea is to build a relationship on your own spot on the web
@david definitely knows his stuff!

@cyberpenguin - thanks for the visiting and great post. you know my son keeps telling me that Sweetie is really a Balinese (could be he’s right LOL!).
As for a picture DUH boy am I dumb!
And alas, no video of the event, was worrying too much about saving the poor dove LOL!

Your son could very well be right about that! If you post a picture of Sweetie, I can probably tell you if he’s a Balinese or not!
No worries about the pictures; you can always add them later.
Hope the dove made it out alive!
BTW, did you get your blog post-footer icons (i.e., the icons next to the “Be Sociable, Please Tag Us” text at the end of every blog post) at http://push.cx/sociable, or possibly somewhere else? They’re really neat! I’ve got the standard “Add This” bookmark (from AddThis.com) at the end of all my blog posts, but your icons are even snazzier!
Do you know if they’ve also got a versus for Blogger, & not just WordPress? Would greatly appreciate any info you’ve got on this. Thanks so much!
Have a great week!

@hillbilly again thanks for the funny Mother’s Day post
@cyberpenguin i will be digging up some pictures right away and adding them in. Also, we use the Socialable Plugin from http://www.joostdevalk.nl/ hope that helps (I just got the link from inside the admin plugins area for you and that’s what it says)
All the best!
Diane
Thanks for the good reminders about commenting. I’m sure I’ll be establishing that habit!
@Brad commenting is fun, and truly market friendly, it’s also slightly addictive LOL!
