Small to Medium Business Hosting Pay Attention to the Details

Friday, July 8th, 2011

When it comes to choosing the right web hosting there are so many factors you must weigh ahead of time. For the individual, there are different hosts (check carefully), and also the somewhat undesirable factor of being on a network shared by who knows who.

Hosting Solutions You Can Live With

Yes the individual may have lots of options, however, a small-to-medium business should, and often does, opt for larger servers, more power, more control, and when available, managed hosting.

Managed hosting (or managed services) include features like:

o Managed and dedicated managed firewalls
o Operating system hardening
o Someone applying the patches and updates at intervals
o Scans to ensure the server isn’t leaking like a sieve (vulnerable)
o Backups done for the company
o Load balancing, and
o Monitoring of the server in a proactive style.

Phew! Think about it. Wouldn’t you rather have your staff concentrating on your actual reason for existence – the business itself? Of course you would!

Hosting Colocation Importance

Another factor to consider is colocation. From single point to multiple server rack colocation, your business servers need proper storage. Factors to consider include enough space, critical temperature control, and security.

And, as with real estate the adage, “Location, location, location!” also is applicable as you choose the right hosting arrangement for your business servers. Data centers close to the “hub” of it all make a difference in so many ways to how your client ultimately receives your sought-after information.

Take your time choosing the right hosting plan, the right hosting servers, and a company with a solid reputation for its client support.

Choosing The Right Path Critical Reading

Strangely enough, six weeks ago everyone was excited around here. Our son graduated high school this past June, and after what we thought was even debate, enrolled into ITT’s Computer Network program.

Unfortunately, after the first six week’s he’s also unenrolled and here are several reasons why:

1.  No one properly explained the funding sources nor the repayment schedule – now granted we should have been more up on this ourselves, but with only one “child” (now an 18 year old “adult”) and no prior experience with FAFSA or any student grants and loans, we did rely heavily on ITT being upfront and honest about all aspects of it.
