Get Your Eyes On Eye-Fi

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Eye-Fi. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love when I come across something that is timely and of particular interest to my family and me. Just the other day, I took a photo card from my husband, put it into the always-used port reader and what happened…?? Absolutely nothing. We had never had trouble before downloading photos, why all of a sudden did the USB slot “stop working?” It just didn’t make any sense.

Well after much fiddling around, and looking for this and that adapter, we were finally able to get the photos off the card and onto the computer (but it was really frustrating!). To add insult to injury, these memories will most likely sit forever on my C Drive, never printed and eventually forgotten.

So when I came across the Eye-Fi it really caught my attention!

Now here’s a way to literally change how your upload your photos for friends and family, along with a unique way to store them!

Boy What A Week Update From Cpanel to Plesk

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Update Time! You might want to glance at the post below to know what I mean :)

I’ve spent the past week plus getting a cram course from my brother who (thank god!) understands coding, hosting, windows (which I’m not using), and Plesk and Linux (though he hates the latter).

I (using the term losely) am moving the entire Whole Hog Blogs network of massive wordpress blogs to new servers – bigger, faster, just all in all great to make the move AND save some cash in the process. Of course in the beginning, it was me doing the data gathering and him sewing it all back together.

But the learning curve has been brutual with 16-20 hour days for what seems like my life. I’m sure my brother is thinking the same thing.

I actually interrupted him while he puts together a HUGE website/blog (that I will write all about in the very near future since he’s looking of course for not only readers but WRITERS).

I am pleased to say that with only short/quick phone calls now (and not every single time LOL), I believe I have come close to mastering the art of moving small, medium, and large (well organized) wordpress blogs. There was an instance, or two, where he patiently put back together anywhere from 30,000 to 90,000 lines of code! Thank you Bob!

So the move is almost accomplished! I loved where I was hosting everyone at Rackforce, it’s just that it was impossible to pass up the bargain of a brand new server built from the ground up with over six times the storage and 10 times the backbone (for much less).

I’ve been a cpanel person all my online life, but you know even when you want to give up and run back to what’s “safe” it’s worth it to stick to your guns and learn something new! Now I’m comfortable with another way to do business using Plesk! TaDa!

Google Wave Better Late Than Never

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Okay, so maybe I’m a tad behind the times (I’ve been really busy, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it), but it wasn’t until today while reading Mighty Oak Marketing’s latest ezine issue that I heard about the upcoming “Google Wave.”

It’s not available, yet, but according to the preview site (which says very little but has this cool video shown below), they are looking to pull together a massive amount of social media marketing and collaboration tools. Just the thing for Google fans in particular, and (perhaps?) marketers.

Here’s an excerpt from Google (also compliments of Mighty Oak Marketing so I didn’t have to dig around myself), that may or may not explain what you have to look forward to: (more…)

Keyword Research Turning Back the Clock

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

As with anything and everything to do with being online, fads come and go, methods come and go, and strategies come and go.

So it’s not that surprising to see that, especially under these current economic times, revisiting your web site’s keywords may be in order.

Here’s a 4:50 video that gives you a heads up on what you might consider doing to your website – and I say might because, as stated at the top trends come and go. If your website is well positioned, you may not want to change your keywords so much as add on a few (and I do mean a few, never spam your keyword meta tags and/or content) to fit more in line with current conditions: (more…)

New Phatband Internet Speed Service Leaves Dial Up, DSL and Cable In The Dust

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Breaking (and lucky!) news for folks living in the St. Louis area… Charter is providing internet users in the St. Louis area the ability to connect to the internet at the fastest internet speed possible, yes even faster than cable (gasp!)!

However, the rest of us shouldn’t despair. Charter is planning on rolling their new “phatband internet speed” to other parts of the country throughout 2009.

What makes “phatband” so unique? Well for anyone still on dial up, I don’t even need to explain, but those on DSL (or even cable) will be shocked. Charter’s Phatband has “turned DSL into the new dial-up internet service.”

I remember when we had dial up, and also when DSL became available in the tiny town where we moved. It was like receiving a gift from heaven. Then, about a decade later, we moved here to Las Vegas, and voila! cable was available. We grabbed it and were/are thrilled.

So, I’m really excited to see what this new phatband internet speed service will be! But, like the rest of the country, we’ll have to wait our turn.

If you think about it, it sounds almost like having your very own T1 line – it’s that super fast.

In the meantime, you can head to Charter’s Ultra60 Information Page for more details. Satisfy your curiosity, and potentially find out how long it will be before it becomes available where you live.

Now that I’ve told my son, an avid game player (rabid is more like it) that hardcore web gamers in St. Louis are already in love with PhatBand’s ability to “download patches in record time,” and virtually eliminate their lag in their gaming, you KNOW I’ll be hounded until we, too, can upgrade.

(Don’t tell him, but I, too, am looking forward to this newest way to connect to the internet to hit Las Vegas.)

Dial up had its day. DSL fit where we lived (and was our only other choice). Cable is serving its purpose, but… I love speed, the faster the better!

You can stay in touch with Charter and its progress by adding Charter’s Twitter Feed to your Twitter. This way you just may get the heads up even quicker!

Come on Charter! Those of us in Las Vegas eagerly await our turn :)
