Strategies for Rethinking Salaries

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Once again I can only say thank you to a good friend for sending me this short but sweet email. The information is really going to tick off a lot of people – at least those with brains (no insult intended, I swear!):|

Wages

Salary of retired US Presidents ………….$450,000 FOR LIFE
Salary of House/Senate members ……….$174,000 FOR LIFE
Salary of Speaker of the House ………….$223,500 FOR LIFE
Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders …..$193,400 FOR LIFE

Average salary of a soldier DEPLOYED IN AFGHANISTAN – $38,000 per tour
Average income for seniors on SOCIAL SECURITY – $12,000 a year

I think we found where the cuts should be made! If you agree… Pass it on!

This is incredibly insulting and proves that 1) we don’t pay attention and 2) we’re willing to let stuff like this go on, when “we the people” are the ones footing the bill. Strategy? Me, I’m waiting for the 100th monkey to tip the scales of justice back where they belong!

Be Careful What You Wish For

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Today I received this from a good friend (via email), and I just couldn’t help but think that while it circulates into inboxes, posting it might be a good idea, too. Sure makes a person stop and think (or it would if politicians thought that far ahead). No matter if you are religious or not, your actions do speak louder than words:

While walking down the street one day, a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

‘Welcome to heaven,’ says St. Peter. ‘Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.’

‘No problem, just let me in,’ says the senator.

‘Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.’

‘Really, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,’ says the senator.

‘I’m sorry, but we have our rules.’

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. ‘Now it’s time to visit heaven.’

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

‘Well, then, you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.’

The senator reflects for a minute, then answers: ‘Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.’

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. ‘I don’t understand,’ stammers the senator. ‘Yesterday I was here, and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?’

The devil looks at him, smiles and says…….

‘Yesterday we were campaigning….Today you voted.’

Now it’s your turn! Please leave your comment! I’d love to know what you’re thinking and what’s your strategy for living?

Politics Heating Up Along with Summer Weather

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

The paper today is filled to the brim with controversial tales of GOP politics, religion court decisions, and education. The more I read, the sicker I feel.

As if it were not bad enough that it is so darn hot here in Las Vegas, the news also seems to be feeling the effects. With high unemployment, foreclosures at an unbelievable level, and now political races you want to run from, Nevada is having a really tough time.

I’ll be covering more about all of these over at WorldNewsVine this evening. So keep in touch with current, factual news – and our soon to be he said/she said (alias Dems versus GOP) section.

Time to turn up the air conditioning!

Strategies That Have Been Consuming My Life and Yours?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Ah how life gets in the way of itself.

Recently, I’ve taken on an additional task of both Editor and columnist. And, the topic of the “day” (one long endless day consuming hours, days, even weeks of many millions of people’s lives) has been the antics of what happens when our government representatives get together.

One primary group of people struggling to figure out successful strategies to stay alive are the group becoming known as the 99ers. This no-where-to-be-found-with-representation group are those who have long since exhausted unemployment extensions and benefits. I’ve been covering a lot of news and options for them, because, living in Nevada, sooner or later this may have a direct impact on our family life as well.

So, as you travel the internet reading posts, news stories, articles and the like, remember those who have nothing.

Also remember that websites and blogs post “advertisements” for a reason. They are not just “pretty pictures” or “additional words” for many it is a form of financial livelihood.
