Zenni Optical Ordering Affordable Sunglasses a Breeze

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

If you, like me, wear corrective lens, then you know that it is a must that you also have a pair of prescription sunglasses, too.

More and more, information about eye damage due to the non-use, under-use, or improper use of sunglasses appears in the news. And, sunglasses are not just a summer thing; the winter glare of snow and ice make it a necessity to protect your eyes at all times when outside. This advices goes for children as well as adults (I’ve seen too many parents wearing their “shades” only to see their kids left defenseless).

Just one of many Zenni Optical choices

Just one of many Zenni Optical choices

Zenni Optical makes it easy for you to get tinted glasses. In fact, their ordering process, and their prices, make it entirely affordable to have more than one pair. While retail eye shops charge an arm and a leg for UV this, and tinting that, Zenni does not have the overhead, and therefore, does not have to “mark up” your prescription sunglasses to make a profit. They also have a wide selection of frame styles (the photo is but one choice). I like the look of these, but I’ll be honest… I do go for more “side protection” and the best part is… they have those, too :)

You do need, of course, a prescription that includes “your pupillary distance” prior to ordering. This is not unusual by any means. But after your examination, you can stop right there, head home, and select any number of frame styles starting as low as $8 at Zenni’s.

I looked over their ordering process and found it, too, is super easy. You choose the frame(s), enter your prescription information (do make sure you enter this information correctly), add your purchase to the shopping cart (continue shopping if you want more than one pair), and when you’re ready, just check out.

As I said above, sunglasses are no longer a fashion accessory, they are a must. A recent visit to my own eye doctor confirms that statement. One of the things she asked me (told me really) was I must always wear sunglasses ANY time I was outside.

Protect your eyes, protect your children’s eyes, and protect your wallet. Check out Zenni Optical and see what’s available that “strikes your eye”.

Watering a Cat

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

For the past several months, our sweet Sammy has been getting thinner and thinner. Well, strangely enough, after finding him (or him us) a few years ago at the height of the heat of a Las Vegas summer, he’s never really put on weight. However, he’s eaten like a horse, been checked numerous times at the vet, etc.

That’s what abandoning an animal can do to it. He used up all his potential stores of fat to the point that, no matter how much more he ate (eats), he just never put on weight. Underneath his coat, he “filled out” slightly. Now, unfortunately, he’s back to the skin and bones stage – moderate renal failure per vet tests.

Hence we have learned how to “water the cat” so to speak. I never foresaw having to IV anyone, not human or animal. But the process (if you have the right, amendable cat) is not that hard to do. Numerous VET videos exist online, especially in YouTube.

Just type in “hydrating a cat” or “how to hydrate a cat”. Having the knowledge beforehand, and being shown physically by our vet, has helped a lot.

With the heat unbearable, and it will be well into October most likely, it’s very important to make sure your “pets” (I really hate that term, they should be your “friends” of “family members”) require special attention. No matter where you are in the country!

On what can be considered the positive side, Sammy has taken to drinking from the bathtub faucet. The running water idea was clever, he seems very amiable to it, however, that also means there has to be someone home all the time, or within a short period of time to ensure he gets enough water.

I’m going to be looking at buying a cat drinking fountains (seriously) locally just as soon as I can find the time to get to any local pet store. I’ve done my research, now to find one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!

A Healthy Follow Up To That Last Post

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Strategies for success come in all shapes and sizes. While the post before talks about your responsibilities for your own health (in most cases), I’d also like to take the opportunity to point out that adding, losing, adding, losing… well you get the cycle… often causes varicose veins.

Pregnancy also has a way of making those not-so-lovely stretch marks, and with increased pressure the onset of varicose veins. Sometimes, it even “travels” in families.

The good news is finding a good vein doctor is no longer a chore. Nor is the procedure to eliminate them. I won’t get into the gory details of yesteryear’s way of dealing with this issue. Suffice to say that endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) works amazingly well, and even ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy (for spider veins).

Hmmm… Surgery or ultrasound/lasers, there’s no hesitation on which to choose is there?!

Do look for the very best vein clinics with the best reputations. And if you use the link above, you’ll easily be able to find such a clinic near you just by entering your zip code!
