Trash or Treasure

I just visited Business Sphere while working through those money-making “spikes” in CMFAds.

The post that caught my eye was a discussion on Entercard and whether or not the 300 drops per day should be lessened to 150. The question being would that decrease bounce rates and increase quality as one visits someone else’s blog?

That answer remains a mystery, but I thought my own comment was worth repeating for those visiting this blog (and that includes bloggers, web site owners and affiliate marketers alike).

It reads:

I’m in agreement with all the comments and the post itself. It is a two-edged sword. Whenever I’ve written (or spoken with my clients) about Entrecard, I emphasize the fact that opening several and allowing the windows to remain open past at least 30 seconds is the most beneficial. It’s not hard to do. Even when you open 10 at a time with the toolbar, wait until they all load, then start at #1 dropping and leaving the window in tact. Work your way through the 10 and then start either commenting where appropriate or closing. This way the person may gain valuable input/comments for him/herself, but above all the bounce rate goes down. Clicking through to the title of the post one wants to comment on also adds value since you are now seen as a visitor making at least 1.8 “hits” for the writer.

Will others do this? God only knows… but it’s not hard and HELPING the blogger should be one’s #1 priority.

Yes, some blogs aren’t worth the time and effort, but who is to say – one man’s (or woman’s) trash can be another one’s treasure.

Given the tools to increase traffic, the problem lies with the visitor and the visitor’s mentality. So many miss golden opportunities to make decent comments on quality blogs. Granted not everyone is giving you link love, but a solid reply often leads the reader to your website and/or blog, basically because you do take the time to construct thoughtful, “added value” to the discussion, etc.

People are curious animals. Many read the comments even more diligently than the post itself (I advise reading carefully so your reply makes sense of course). Be interesting and others just may display an interest in YOU!

And, for those of you who do not blog (gasp!) commenting is still right up your alley. Each comment you make is a free source of advertising.

Simple to do, and back linking building to boot!

For a fast start, just use the Whole Hog Blogs list to your right. This even takes the “where can I find quality blogs to comment on” right out of the equation. When you’re done with that list, you can always find more at Google. They have a specific way of looking up JUST blogs!

  1. Just staying 30 seconds on a blog is not really beneficial as Google Analytics only counts the time when you click through to one of the posts on each blog. Otherwise the statistics still will tell you the person stayed 0 seconds with just visiting the landing page :(

I saw this article. It would be nice to have a 150 card drop limit. It is great for traffic, but a little time consuming.

This is valuable information. I do think dropping 15o a day is plenty. That is about all I usually have time for. It also does help with the time to spend, a little more valuable time at a site, if the content is of interest.
