Job Projections Through 2016 A Starting Point

Whether you currently hold down a job in the real world, are looking for a change, or are currently unemployed and wondering what’s looking good for potential employment in and outside of the state you live in, I’ve found a great place for you to start your hunt.

The ALMIS State Projections website – a work in progress – can help those within the United States determine their career path.

What you will find is an ability to do extensive searches, find statistics useful for plotting immediate and long-range goals. It’s a database website and the only “what is this all about” is summed up on their front page:

Projections of occupational employment growth are developed for all States and the nation as a whole. One of the most important uses of the projections is to help individuals make informed career decisions. Information on this site allows projected employment growth for an occupation to be compared among States. It also allows projected employment growth among occupations to be compared within one State.

Of course when you get there you will want to choose the 2006-2016 Long Term Projections link.

From there you’re on your own. There are a variety of ways you can look up the projections, so I won’t even try to cover every listing, every direction. Their database is being compiled based on national projects by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.

However, employed or not, this web site could very well help you determine if you stay where you are, move on, change jobs, get additional training, etc.

    Hi Diane!

    This is a neat tool.

I would imagine that this post has been birthed, at least in part, from hubby’s search?

Again, I’ll be passing it along to my daughter who is trying to make some decisions about career path.

    Thanks much!
