Speeding Things Up By Slowing Down
More often than I’d like (okay I really enjoy it but you have to be careful), taking a trip around the root directory of one’s host and/or the admin areas of wordpress blogs (or any type of database-driven “website) means finding ways to cut back on the use of resources.
Recently, and forgive me but I cannot remember where I was or who said it, but they quoted Yanik Silver as saying if you are running more than 15 plugins to a Wordpress blog, you are running too many.
That may be true, and more often than not the Whole Hog Blogs network of blogs runs what it needs. Yes, there are widgets and plugins out there to fulfill just about anyone’s dream. Yes, you don’t need every single one of them. But there are several that are a must in whatever form you choose. We prefer (this is just a sample listing and no where near the entire list):
o Statpress
o WS-Mushit
o All In One SEO
o Tweetmeme
I can easily say these are my particular favorites – all for various reasons. However, the point to this post is do check every now and then to see if you haven’t overloaded yourself with useless or long-dead material – be it on a website or a blog.
By cutting back the number of resources kept “just in case” you’ll not only free up disk space, but potentially speed up the load time of your site.

Thank you for that reminder. The web is full of different stuffs which either contain good or non sense contents and makes the disk space full. But this is not a big deal.

I run very few plugins. I guess I’m a purist.
