How To Make Your Titles Search Engine Friendly
We love descriptive blog post titles. However, like any type of advertising, especially solo ads, article titles, and (of course) blog post titles, create them too long and you’re wasting not only a lot of usable space, but hindering your search capabilities.
That’s why we are testing a new SEO post link plugin for WordPress bloggers which “makes your post link short and SEO friendly… automatically.” In other words, this simple plugin removes extraneous words from your titles. It comes pre-built with a whole list of “useless” words, and you can set it to really be aggressive (we’re eliminating any word less than two characters long) through the “more options” setting.
The SEO Post Links Plugin has been developed by keeping in mind all the shortcomings of the default WordPress configuration. To put it briefly, this plugin makes your blog post link short as well as optimizes it for search engine.
So, again in theory, this makes all your page title links rich in keywords and short on those miscellaneous ones that could make the difference in being found in the search engines… or not.
It will be an interesting test to see how effective this WordPress plugin is. It most certainly makes good search engine optimization sense to pare down words in your linking.
Special Note: As I save this post, and the permalink is created, I have visual proof it has removed the “extra words.” Our permalink will read “titles-search-engine-friendly.” Now personally I know that “how to” also makes a good search term. So we shall see if shortening up our urls makes a difference in Google, Yahoo!, Windows Live, and the rest.
And… Remember that list of pre-built words I spoke about above? You can edit that list, add new words, remove some; flexibility is the key. It does appear that the creator of this plugin has done a superior job.
Only time will tell; our test begins.

I’d be interested to hear your results. I don’t pay much attention to my post titles, so it would be great for a plugin to do it for me.

That is definitely interesting. I look forward to hearing the feedback from your test. Any tip on getting picked up by the search engines is certainly of interest!
Hmmm. I suspect the informaed human brain would be better at it than the plug in–but will be interested to see the results.

@everyone – first thank you for commenting! Every single commenter is one smart cookie
And, I think so far it’s doing a very good job. Vein, removing extraneous (and unnecessary) words should be a boon for the search engines. Make your url too long, and your keywords for that title lose weight/power. You want the critical words showing when someone heads to the search engines; their algorithms strip out the needless ones anyway. Good SEO strategy
After being in the SEO industry for all these years, my brain just works automatically like this. I almost speak in keywords anymore. LOL!
Great plugin though for the beginners!

I’d be interested to see the results of this. I don’t use WordPress, but as a website designer I’m pretty well-versed in meta tagging. I’m just waiting for Google to run their next PR update in January to see how my site has done over the past couple of months.

@Success – not sure if I understand your question since there is the “header” area of a blog or website and/or a “title” can be considered the “header” for your post or article. If you return, feel free to clarify your question. I’d love to answer
Sounds like an excellent plugin, keep us posted on your results.

I am so bad with keywords and with writing so many blog posts I don’t have the time to do keyword searches. I hope you keep us posted on how this works. I may just add the plugin myself anyway to check on it too.
