One of the most valuable, free, and overlooked forms of marketing and advertising is commenting on blogs. We state it over and over at the end of every post we make, and while many take us up on the offer, there are hundreds if not thousands who visit and completely miss the boat.

Below, we’ve inserted a video that will give you complete and meaningful instructions on how to choose the right blogs to comment on, why, and the tools to set this all up to make your life a whole lot easier (and all the tools are free).

By commenting on blogs you have the ability to make numerous things happen for your website and yourself:

o Many blogs “do follow” meaning as you fill out the fields in the comment area, and insert your url to your website, you are creating a link in the search engines to your website and/or blog.

o That great comment of yours can and does provide traffic again to your website page. Granted, you must do more than the “great post” comment. Put a bit of yourself into your responses! Be interesting, be on target with the post, and provide insight if you have insight to share that enhances the post itself.

o People read not only the posts on blogs, but the comments themselves.

o Commenting gives you a chance to network and perhaps find potential joint venture partners down the line. A chance to network with the right people in your target niche… for free!

So in the spirit of giving you even more reason to comment here (and on other blogs you’ll find), and add more power to your commenting, we discovered the following highly informative social media smart blog commenting video.

Note: Before you start this approximately 10 minute video, have a pen and paper handy. Tom’s going to give you some excellent pointers on how to best use your time daily, weekly, at whatever rate you choose. He gives you specifics on how to best hone directly in on blogs that relate to what you’re doing, and step by step instructions on how to do it. Keep in mind he does bring up a piece of software he’s purchased (and we had but do not use). You do not need the software, but by following his other steps you’ll quickly and easily be making comments on relevant blogs, building your linking on quality sites, and establishing relationships… all for absolutely free!

Second Note: Tom brings up PR as he demonstrates his blog commenting techniques. While PR is worth noting, I’d also suggest you put an addon (Firefox) to your toolbar called SearchStatus. You should also be checking not only for the potential high PR but for sites that are getting traffic. SearchStatus provides you with input for both traffic and PR. As noted in an earlier post of ours, a high PR does not necessarily mean the site is getting much traffic. You want your comment to be seen and read, right?)
