Guest Posting How To Information
This morning, while talking with Janet Giacoma, we discussed the value of guest posting, or more precisely, pursuing the idea of guest posting on other people’s blogs.
So after a lengthy conversation about marketing strategies for the upcoming New Year (and of course once I was off the phone), I started doing a bit of digging. (Guest posting is not something new to us, but it never hurts to do a bit of background research to bring yourself up to speed.)
Guest Posting Secrets (How to Get Published on An A-List Blog), posted a little over a year ago, provides the information anyone considering adding such a marketing strategy to their business should take the time to read… first!
“In this post, I want to share the strategies I used to secure guest-posting spots at three Technorati Top 100 blogs (ProBlogger, Copyblogger and Zen Habits) without any prior contact with the owner. I don’t include that information to boast – I simply want to show you that these methods work. If they worked for me, they can work for you.”
This informational post provides specific guest post directions such as:
o Why guest post on popular blogs?
o Choosing where to guest post
o Coming up with the perfect idea
o Pitching your post (includes email template)
o Opportunities to look out for
o And important things to remember
Not surprising, it also appears that the post about guest posting may itself BE a guest post. How clever is that?
Our suggestion? Make the time to study up on, and implement, this social media marketing concept as soon as possible, and reap the benefits.

I’ve done guest blogging for pay on a couple of sites, but have recently begun to consider the value of swapping guest blogging posts with other bloggers. Mahalo for the insight!

Hi Skeeter! I have a friend who is very much interested in swapping guest posts. Hopefully it will be okay with you if she contacts you?

Of course, Diane! It’s something I’ve wanted to experiment with, as long as each of us can create content compatible with the other’s blog. Mahalo!

I think it is just like asking someone to pitch hit for you at your job. Gives your readers a bit of a different perspective.

I dont know if i have ‘guest posted” but then I havent really commented on blogs before I started my own. I would say if I was to it would be because I have found some random blog and just leaving a thought…. But again, before I started my own because now I have my own blog identity…

That’s an interesting idea- I had not thought of it. The real key sounds like figuring out how it would be beneficial to both you and the blog owner where you want to post-I read part of the blog post at BlogPerfume, but I’m going to read the rest of it this morning-

I did my first guest post a few weeks ago in the form of an interview. It was so much fun! I’m going to do some research so I can do more guest posts – with more of my own writing.

A well-written guest post is essentially a gift to the blog owner. So it works for both parties. (I find it hard to get guests on my blogs than be a guest on good blogs.)

I agree with the advice above but really think it applies to anything you try. It always makes sense to research any technique you might decide to try. Spend some time watching what other due and what value comes from it before jumping in.
Fancy swapping guest posts? I could do with an Internet Marketing Strategies post on http://mba-geek.com

Interesting post! Internet marketing is growing slowly in the IT industry but there is a good scope in it. Good luck to this new field.
