If I Was A Disney Character

… little blue birds would be singing, cleaning my kitchen, making our beds, and in general making my day even grander :)

(Even if you voted for “the other guy” you’re going to want to read this post, I promise.)

Today is THE day we wake up with hope! A defining moment in all of our lives to once again believe that there is hope for each of us, for our country, yes even on a grand scale… for the world.

Sound grandiose? It’s not.

Like many Americans, and 78 countries around the world, I sat in front of the TV yesterday from 3 p.m. (pacific time) until well after midnight watching MSNBC cover the election process. (They did a kick butt job with the coverage.)

For me and mine, it wasn’t a matter of “we want to win” – that’s for sporting events. What my family and I longed for was the opportunity to kick the status quo, to opt TO change. To become a better country. To restore hope in the hearts and minds of millions across our country – around the world.

And we voted to do just that!

Thank you America – no matter who you voted for – you dropped your vote into that ballot box or pulled the lever, or mailed in your ballot, or early voted, or touch screened… your voice – and…

… made history!

To be perfectly honest, only at live baseball games, live football games, or live school events when the National Anthem began to play have I ever gotten to my feet – more from a crowd control perspective, a “duty” that had to be done, that standing was expected of me than a joyful willingness to stand.

But, last night, as corny as it sounds, when president-elect Obama made his appearance, for the first time in my life, I actually stood up in my living room – because I wanted to, no must! – as the president elect walked onto the stage with his family.

And, hopefully – win or lose – you listened to his acceptance speech with an open heart.

Not a single waver from what Obama has been telling us directly for the last almost two years. He didn’t go on and on about what WAS, instead – and with a true presidential presence – he talked about our future. He noted that change will not happen overnight, in a week, a month, a year. (After all, life is not a magic wand, that is only in Disney movies.) But what he did promise is to begin that transformation, make those changes with the full expectation that We The People will participate.

No longer can we abdicate responsibility, feeling we have no voice, we make no difference.

We now do!

We were urged, and we must continue, to take a active role in OUR government. It’s back in OUR hands again. We count!

Did you notice the crowd in Chicago? 60,000 inside the park with 100,000 outside its gates. And when he was through talking, they weren’t ranting and raving like they’d just won the super bowl. Instead there was a palatable feeling of responsibility and hope. Not a “we are the winners” attitude like it had been a sports event. No screaming and yelling. Just shining hope and, again, that sense of We The People.

We The People will be getting responsible individuals with the right perspective of being OUR public servants going to Washington.

What I am most relieved about is, even if Bush is leaving the next administration with the biggest pile of dog chit ever, we have someone with a PLAN headed to the White House.

You can say anything you want, but if you want to get the job done, you must have a PLAN.

Colin Powell, Warren Buffet, and other highly respected names, along with as yet unnamed individuals from the Clinton adminstration (remember him, the guy that left office with a United States surplus?!) are potentials for the Obama/Biden team.

But it’s not just an Obama/Biden team – those coming to the White House will be OUR team. On our side. Willing to listen and do what they can for you and me and our families and our future. Willing to agree, and willing to listen even if they do not agree.

We, as a people, have our voices back!

For the second time in my life (the first was crossing the Tijuana border back into California after a 24 hour trip) I actually feel patriotic – true patriotism not just because I was lucky enough to be born here. But a from-the-heart feeling. It feels great!

Even my father, who watched from his own TV (we all watched from our own – my husband couldn’t or didn’t want to watch the whole thing) confessed (and this was hard for him to say, but he wanted us to know) that when Obama appeared and went on to speak, he “teared up” here and there. A 75 year old gentleman, and self-confessed, all his life Republican (minus the last election and this one), proud of what he was seeing and hearing.

I listened closely – I’ve been doing so for months and months – and I cannot think of a single group Obama left out last night in acknowledging we all have our parts to play, and play them we must – black, white, hispanic, asian, gay, straight, disabled, nondisabled (unlike Obama I may have left a group out, I apologize).

Here is an individual who truly sees people as people – individuals – We The People.

Rejoice! Be happy – the world has hope – renewed or new for the first time! My son has the possibility to “inherit” something neither you nor I ever – until yesterday – had a hope of happening. Change!

I do acknowledge that if you’ve read this far you might have voted for “the other guy.” You may be worried, you may even be fearful. It may sound strange, and you may not even believe me, but that fear you may be feeling was not instilled in your heart by Obama. Not if you truly listened throughout the campaign to his message of hope and a “brave new world” for all of us.

That fear was placed there deliberately as a political tactic that – by the grace of God no matter whether you believe in “a God” or not – will not be displayed again in a political campaign (hey I can hope, right?).

I – and apparently millions of other Americans – believe it was the fear that ruined “the other guy’s” chances. It was terror tactics that blew up in his/her/their face.

We The People have been longing for OUR government back for far too long. And thankfully America, we all woke up and came to our senses!

Nothing will change overnight. Nothing changes overnight.

We say it all the time in terms of marketing and advertising yourself online. There are no “instant riches.” It takes dedication, determination, the desire to succeed, the desire to win.

Today, in this Country, is a day like any other day. Only now, come January (hurry up January!) we have new hope as we demonstrate our willingness to work for those changes.

I actually urge everyone who has a blog, who has a website, who has hope in their hearts to embed these videos on your spaces, too! Watch, listen, remember, and watch again! America can and often does form unity – yet we also need reminders. Take this bit of history, and keep it alive in your hearts and homes, and all over the net!

I am sure that there a lot of folks who have the extra step in their walk today! What a night. Almost a landslide! McCain was very gracious in his concession speech. All in all, it was a historic night and I got to see it with my own eyes!

Hope is alive and well. Great post and yes, people’s eyes have opened to “Yes! We Can!”

Lindas last blog post..A Terrific Safety Suggestion!

Okay, it’s time for a staunch republican to give her point of view (and I dread doing so for fear of retaliation)…however, I would say the same about McCain had he won. I was not fond of either candidate and believed very little of either of their rhetoric. However, I never lean to the left and only occasionally will move to the middle (like BOTH candidates did near the end of their campaigns). This country IS ready for a change and a change MUST come. I just hope it’s the change that we all wish for. I’ve listened to Obama’s speeches (post election) and it just seems to me that he is already, side-stepping, vascillating, back pedaling, and tap dancing. We shall have to wait and see if everyone is STILL happy with their decision by 2012. (Skepticism is my middle name)

Hi Judy! Don’t know why the darn comments are going into moderation all the time, I’ve yet to figure that out LOL!

However, your opinions and feedback are deeply appreciated. Never feel like you have to wonder should you say something or not. That’s “freedom of speech!”

As for the sidestepping – I watched Obama’s first press conference and I was thinking more along the lines of he was thinking “yikes, so this is what it’s like” LOL!

They’ve all been doing their “stump” stuff. Now it’s “off the cuff” and that might be a harder transition. However, I still feel he will do all in his power (and he’s not the only person in Washington so we can only hope party lines will drop in favor of the American people they are meant to serve), and the right “stuff” gets done!
