Cyber Monday, StumbleUpon, and SEO for Firefox Updates
If you’re out today shopping and facing the “black Friday” crowd, all the best to you; however, if you wait, apparently come Monday you’ll be able to find a ton of even better bargains online.
“Cyber Monday,” a new term to me, is coming:
More than 8 out of 10 shoppers will be looking for discounts on Cyber Monday and 69% will be searching for free shipping according to a survey by Shopzilla.
“Cyber Monday has become so famous for its good deals that many consumers prefer waiting until Monday to shop online rather than heading out to the stores for the traditional Black Friday deals,” says Shopzilla. “Even the browsers – not shoppers – are using Cyber Monday to strategically prowl the web for promotions and savings.”
Shopzilla reported that the majority (83.7%) of retailers will have special promotions for CyberMonday, up from 72.2% last year.
So while some(?), most(?), many(?) of us wait for Monday in the quiet comfort of home or office, here are few worthwhile Firefox addon updates of note:
StumbleUpon released an update that my computer told me about this morning. The best fix or tweak that caught my eye was now, should you wish to give a site the “thumbs down” (I just generally skip by, I hate giving anyone the thumbs down), you’ll notice on your toolbar a little drop down arrow beside that icon:
Version 3.28
* Adds the following thumb down types:
1. Not-for me – This doesn’t suit me.
2. Stumbled this before – This content was in a previous stumble.
3. Too much like this lately – Baby animals are nice, but that’s enough for now.
* Adds website blocking via the thumb down menu for FF 3.x users. Blocked websites won’t be served via the Stumble button.
There’s more to the StumbleUpon current update, but I put in the parts most interesting to us
And if you’re using the SEO for Firefox addon, they’ve also had an update. SEO for Firefox provides almost more information that you’d really want or need to know (just kidding), when you use Google’s search engines to find information.
This current update covers:
New in version 3.0…
* Digg counts for ranking page added.
* Number of Digg homepage stories for site added.
* StumbleUpon comment count added.
* Links to Google’s Search-based Keyword tool added.
o One added at the top of the search results for deeper research of a particular keyword.
o One added near each listing for site related competitive keyword research.
* Link to Google Search Insights added.
* Works with Google SearchWiki when you are logged into your Google account.
* Offers link to Google sponsored results for that keyword.
Keep in mind that both of the above do much more than what I’ve listed here in the blockquote areas. Both of these sections on this blog are the latest updates – or in the case of StumbleUpon, only a fraction.
We believe everyone should be using StumbleUpon – bloggers and website owners alike – and while I turn SEO for Firefox off and on, it does provide amazingly comprehensive information while performing a Google search. You’ll most likely be overwhelmed
So, if like millions of others, you’re hanging out until Cyber Monday to do your shopping online, take the time to update your add ons, clean up your computer, defrag your hard drive, and backup your information.
It’s the end of the year cleaning time for all us cyber “geeks!”
