Building Links A Roundabout Search Leads To Interesting and Profitable Ideas

Sometimes I wonder about myself. I start at Point A only to arrive many clicks later at Point Z – which ultimately ends up providing me with the inspiration for my next post (even when I don’t find what I was really looking for!). Today is no exception.

I’m a regular subscriber to WebProNews and have been for years. Strangely enough I’ve seen “authority figures” poo-poo WPN in their forums, but I can tell you that the insights I get far outweigh the times where the information is intriguing albeit short of the mark. Doesn’t happen often, but some writers just don’t give you the full scoop. Whether their plan is to write more, or just provide surface-level research, I do not know. I have also read article bits and posts where I downright disagreed with the writer.

But that’s what makes WPN so interesting, and, more often than not, I get great input and ideas.

That said (that’s not an intentional plug, but will explain the convolution of the rest of this post nicely) that’s how today started out.

Opening their emailed information I received on November 11th (yes, I run behind at times), I started my initial trail because I’m interested in displaying HTML feeds. At least that’s what I thought I was doing when I clicked on – of all things – an ad WPN was displaying for Azoos.com. (Azoos’ tag line is “The Internet’s 21st Century Search Engine.”)

[Now, before you get all excited, do know ahead of time Azoos is a paid search engine submission company. Your first listing will cost you $89.95 and "$79.95 for each additional submission!"]

BUT… it turns out that just lead me somewhere else!

I ended up back inside WebProNews following out to this post Aaron Wall on How to Buy Links without Getting in Trouble.

But hold your horses! That article actually lead to Aaron Walls full/real post, a post made on August 17th. Wall lists 17 ways to build your linking without necessarily buying your way onto people’s websites (yeah!).

He covers:

o Testimonials
o Conferences
o Association Memberships
o Contests
o Awards
o Donations
o Free Samples
o Widgets
o Sponsorships
o Web Directory Submissions
o Affiliate Programs
o Social Media
o Google Adwords (and similar programs)
o Linking out to “Egomaniac Bloggers”
o Blog Carnivals
o Press Releases
o Hiring/Buying Brands and Sites

How to Buy Links Without Being Called a Spammer has Aaron’s full input on that list above.

If you’re new to all of this, it’s great information.

If you’re an old-timer to internet and social media marketing, it’s still a great read – it might give you fresh ideas!

In conclusion (yes, you’ve finally reached the end!), I have yet to find what I originally went looking for (but you can see that the journey itself was worth the trip :) )

Okay, back to my original search… finding high-quality HTML feeds to display on websites… LOL!

And remember, inspiration is everywhere – all you need to do is be willing to follow the trail!
