What’s Wrong With This Picture Little Sheep?

Okay, before you actually start looking for a picture, the title is merely that… the title of the post. However, it does serve a purpose.

If you read the post prior to this, you’re already aware of the discussion about “spreading the wealth.” Since it’s Saturday, and sort of a free-for-all day to make posts, I’m pursuing this subject a tad longer.

In today’s Las Vegas Review Journal, an article about McCain stumping in Colorado is on the front page. The portion that caught my eye was this:

“Supporters let out lusty boos when the Arizona senator told them that Obama, the Democratic nominee, “wants to spread the wealth around.”

Lusty BOO’s??? I’m actually sitting here shaking my head, even though you cannot see me doing it. Do people truly and willingly want to remain the underdog, the poor, the downtrodden? Does the idea of being able to capitalize on benefits handed so readily to large corporations while we the people are totally ignored really and truly NOT appeal to them (the crowd)? So you do NOT want help?!?

What is wrong with this picture?

Does the Republican party believe we are blind little sheep? Yes, I think they must. I’ve never in my life seen someone make a claim, embellish the claim, recant the claim, and blame the claim (be it whatever stupid nonsense, pick anything said in the last several weeks by the McCain campaign) on the other side. Maybe the idea – the “strategy” is to drive those of us listening and analyzing to the point of nervous breakdowns. Where the men in white coats have to come and cart us away, drooling.

How, if you are a supporter of the Republican side, can you not hear what the heck is going on?

There’s been one rock solid candidate these past 20 some months. One guy, with one solid, clear message – and it ain’t been McCain.

Now I’m also going to quote a bit of Brad’s comment he made on the last post. Brad and I are friends, so I feel safe in doing so. He wrote:

“But where the “redistribution of wealth” gets to be a “four-letter word,” is when our government begins to tax the snot out of both individuals and businesses (i.e., take the wealth) in order to fund some program that gives that wealth to deadbeats who refuse to get up and EARN it.”

Brad I love ya, but what the ????!

Nowhere in all the statements, all the debates, all the news coverage have I heard a single person or source state that Obama plans to just willy nilly give handouts to shiftless, no goods.

Why is it that people (okay let’s just say it, Republicans) keep making the assumption that “spreading the wealth” means free money for all?

Nowhere, and no one, has said this is the way it will happen – except for the Republicans who hope to make you believe that you did not hear what you know you heard.

What HAS BEEN and IS BEING addressed are ways to put middle class Americans on equal footing for:

o  Health care coverage

o  Retirement benefits

o  Creation of jobs by giving tax credits to American businesses willing to hire U.S. citizens versus shipping all their production, etc., overseas – you do want to work don’t you, here in THIS country? Anyone paying attention to the unemployment rate?!? We are! It’s affecting our family at this very moment.

o  Alternate energy sources so we can finally turn things around and be “the land of the free” again!

o  Better education and educational assistance to anyone seeking to better him or herself.

Notice there has never been a single elitist statement there that “only you, or you, or you” get to have a share in the “wealth.” We would ALL be capable of benefiting from some “do the middle class good” assistance.

That is “spreading the wealth.”

The comment also includes the statement, “gives that wealth to deadbeats who refuse to get up and EARN it.”

Let’s explore, for just a moment the term “middle class.” The middle class has been, and unless we make changes this time around, will continue to be the poor suckers that are the backbone of this country. Middle class means us poor slobs out there EARNING A LIVING and putting our share into Social Security (which we may not receive unless change happens when it comes our time to retire!).

“Deadbeats” are not the Middle Class. But I can safely say that without protection for the middle class we’re going to have a lot more raving lunatics walking the streets, jobless, homeless. That’s where the last eight years has put us!

Obama is taking his message to you and me Brad, and to all of us other middle class, responsible, U.S. citizens. He wants to help you and me because I know I’m in the 95% majority being taxed to death year in and year out. And yes, I sure as hell would like to be – finally – given a break! No one is expecting a free ride – or if you are or think that’s what Obama is saying you’re one loony tune away from the nuthouse.

I believe what we are witnessing is decades of brain washing. It most certainly appears so to me. With the offer on the table to finally help the middle class get a fair shake in this country – and frankly the faces in these same McCain crowds appear to be middle class or poorer – and people “let out lusty boos” at the offer for relief and assistance to be treated fairly – I can only assume that no one is listening because they have been conditioned to not listen, but to blindly follow a party line.

Being a sheep does not appeal to me in the slightest. I would hope it would be the last thing you want to be on this planet. Yet we are witnessing a sheep-like response.

Isn’t there anyone out there willing to fight for their rights??

It’s time to fight back. It is time for change! Change is okay, change is good. The last eight years have been a living hell, and we won’t get any change if we don’t step up to the plate and make it happen.

I’m so not into politics..and quite frankly I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired, that I just can’t wait for this to all be over with. I just hope and pray that whoever is elected will roll up there sleeves and get down to business!
Put away the partisan politics, fire most of congress, get rid of Pelosi, and do away with the electoral college, would be a good thing for starters! When it comes right down to it, do our votes really count?…think about it!

    Hey Diane!

You’ve given me a bit of material to chew on, but I’ll have to get back with you on some of this. Sunday is my busiest day of the week.

Hope it’s a good one for you. :)

@Barbara – yes the most dangerous thing in this country is the “popular vote” versus the “electoral vote.” America hold your breath…

@Brad – yeah! Thank you for reading and yes, I hope there is a meeting of the minds on what we think we hear and what is really being addressed. And yes, I know how busy Sunday is for you – you’re very much a community-minded individual :)

Brad, Brad, Brad …. My Friend, could of sworn you were middle class along with the rest of us.
Are you blogging from the Kauai Hilton on the Lanai Island or I know, I know, in your hummer going to the golf course but no, you are in a mini-van shopping for groceries only to find out that your very own family members have hijacked your only means of transportation! So, you know, silly me for even thinking you were middle class. ;)

Diane WOW! So let me get this right! You are voting for Obama, right? Now do not beat around the bush, tell us how you really feel!
    Good Job!

Very interesting and well written post. I’m not an U.S.A. citizen, but like a lot of people around the world, cannot help but follow the American Elections ups and downs.

I’d really love to be wrong on this, but from my own country’s (and many others’s) experience, it’s hard to believe that the real “spreading the wealth” will mean an improvement on middle class status.

The top richest 1% always find a way or another to not spread THEIR wealth. The poorest don’t have wealth to spread, so it becomes the same old song: government taking the wealth from the middle class to funnel it up to the richest or to give it down “to deadbeats who refuse to get up and EARN it”.

I say again, I’d love to be wrong this time.

    Hi all!

I know it seems that I’ve fallen off the edge of the world, but I’m still here being busy, busy, busy.

Congratulations to my liberal friends on the resounding win on election day.

All I can say about that at the moment is: We’ll all be watching and time will tell.

Hope all’s well with you,Theresa. I really AM getting myself geared up and organized to be back in the saddle soon!
