Halloween Ruined This Year?

Just for Fun Sunday…

My father sent me this earlier in the week and I only now got around to opening and reading it. The caption above the image reads:

Halloween Is Going to Suck This Year!!!

foreclosures ruin trick or treating

WILL SOMEONE STAND UP AND BE COUNTED?

At age 76, I was born during the Great Depression and it may well be that I will die within a depression that may be even greater. Today is a sad day, not because of passing a “bailout” bill, but because of the greed and pettiness that took place during this process.

In the middle of a truly tragic economic cycle we propose and pass a remedy that started off as a three page presentation and ended up with over 450 pages, according to a CNN offering. Within these pages were pork, add-ons, etc., call them what you will, indicating that we truly have representatives that care little for the preservation of our country let alone the preservation of our way of life.

Whether one is a Democrat or Republican matters little, since all of our representatives took part in this fiasco.

I suppose I’m naive to assume that these people were sent to Washington to carry out the intentions voiced by their constituents, rather than going to Washington to become wealthy and influential. There may be exceptions, but I would truly appreciate someone identifying just one representative that has the good of the people and country in mind, rather than their own personal security and comfort.

Adding, for me, even more fuel to the fire to not only VOTE this year, but vote for the candidate who has the middle class’ best interests at heart! … You KNOW which one I mean! :)

I wish there was a way to get back to voting for one issue at a time. The way they add everything to a bill is ridiculous. That is why all these weird things get funded. They, the senators and reps, have to accept the pork to get a bill passed.

  2. Janet says:

This election is more important than ever. Those who aren’t interested in voting, should not complain one peek afterwards!

  3. Diane says:

@Karen – in total agreement! To wait and push worthless things through only because you can paid your little pork pie to the mix. Kick ‘em all out and try again, I say!

@Janet – also agree totally with what you comment! Let’s just pray the RIGHT person(s) get into office and work for us little guys the way they should have been all along.

Here! Here! I agree that this added pork barrel junk has got to stop. I mean wooden arrows, give me a break! I am voting this year and my only other wish is that the electoral college is eliminated. It is past its time and we do not need it!

@Linda – I am so with you on that position. In this day and age, counting every single solitary vote ONE BY ONE is easily achievable. The Electorical College should be eliminated once and for all – no more back door shady deals! Hear! Hear! (my variation LOL) Right back at you!

These are indeed very worrying times, and having politicians (not just in the US) who seem to put personal or party interests continually ahead of the national interest, need booting out at the first opportunity. As for your Presidential election, your choice seems to be finding the better of the two very poor candidates (the choice may be influenced by the questionable ethics of the GOP’s VP candidate).

    Hi Diane,

A very thought provoking article. I agree, with kick ‘em out and try again. So much for, for the people and by the people…oh ya!…they forgot about us little guys, while they were busy padding their pockets at our expense. YA, time for that crooked electoral college to take a hike, right along with most of congress..and well ,let’s just start over!

  8. I agree with the college and the congress, but not with the GOP VP statement. She has more experience than Oboma and lord help us if Biden ever became President. Think this year is bad, if Oboma is elected there might not be a Halloween in a socialist system!!!

  9. diane says:

@MikeKL – Typically every election is a “make your pick and take your chances.” Honor and integrity worldwide appears to have flown out the window – while we all stood silently by and let it happen.

@Barbara – in total agreement! Government positions are temp jobs not permanent employment. Kick ‘em out and let them try to find a job in today’s market!

@Normasn – Obama (sorry not Oboma) is speaking up for us, the little guy. I haven’t a clue why you would think that the Republicans have your personal interests at heart. They never have, and they never will. It’s their party’s foundation to protect and serve the rich.

I also don’t understand how you arrive at a socialist system just because someone wants you to have or keep your job, have or be able to afford health insurance, have or be able to plan for your retirement, have or be able to have your children educated at a level of standard certainly ten times higher than it currently exists.

People helping people is not socialism, it’s the Golden Rule. It also is what your government should always be doing, but continues to fall on its face or neglect even trying.

The last eight years have been the longest in my life and no I am not ready nor inclined to see it just keep repeating.

And, to continue my soapbox rant, there is no way in the world you can claim that Palin has more experience than Biden – maybe at driving the kids to soccer practice, but come on! that’s about it.

Oh wait! I can see Russia from here in Vegas! Oh my!

Don’t you think it odd that on Monday your chosen party reps say one thing, change it on Tuesday, recant it on Wednesday, and then blame it on the other guy come Thursday… This is not honorable nor admirable.

I’m not a “party person” in the slightest, but God did give me the brains to really listen, retain, and make positive and wise choices. This year I pray everyone else is doing likewise.

It’s not a matter of “winning for the sake of winning.” It is vital to our very existence that we change. We must evolve, we must throw out the “I’m a Republican” or “I’m a Democratic.” You are neither! You need to start seeing yourself as a person who deserves to have your public servants address your needs and the needs of your family. To date, the answer from the current party holding the oval chair has been a resounding “up yours.” Do you really want that to keep on keeping on??

Color, religion, and political party should have no part in one’s decision come November 4. Instead we need to help ourselves help each other AND the futures of our here-and-now and soon-to-be children.

What I find particularly scary is that it’s hard to tell if people are listening? Really and truly listening!

Okay, climbing down off the soapbox now.

And Normasn, truly thank you for your comment!

  11. Linda says:

Normasn, I believe your comment struck a cord! I know that you believe in sarah palin and there are a few of us who DO NOT. And you just found one here at OIMS! Come again!
