How To Get People To Double Opt-In To Read Your Blog
Written by diane on September 25, 2008 – 9:56 am -UPDATE 9/25 at 4:03 p.m. - we just test installed it and unfortunately while installation went smoothly, as soon as it was activated the entire blog disappeared - never fear just deleting the plugin brought the blog back online. However, we urge caution and read, read, read first
Now onto the information:
It’s great to have great friends, and this morning Linda Rembowski of ForcedGreen gets my high five award
She sent me information that you’re sure to want to investigate for yourself. WordPress Double Opt-In Manager Widget.
Most of the time owners of websites and blogs use services like Aweber or Getresponse to generate signup boxes and mailing lists. If you’re the proud owner of a WordPress blog, without the means to do more than provide RSS feed subscriptions, this might be right up your alley.
This WordPress email list management plugin allows the visitors of your blog subscribe to your mailing list using a double opt-in method. The signup form (Email, Name and other fields) is placed on the WordPress blog sidebar. After a user fills in the form and clicks “Subscribe”, WP double opt-in plugin sends an email with the subscription confirmation link to the user.
The great part is since it is a plugin, and Wordpress users are notoriously friendly about sharing (for free) their developments, this one is also free!
Scott and I are plugin mavens! And, while we already have both Aweber and Getresponse accounts, we’re sure to start testing this plugin for ourselves and our Whole Hog Blogs network.
So thanks again Linda for sending this along! And we hope you benefit greatly from this information today, too

Another way to benefit right now? COMMENT on what we’ve presented above! Commenting provides free marketing for yourself and your website or blog. You’d be foolish to miss this opportunity!

So, Diane, is this something I do myself or will “someone else” set it up for me.
I want it!

Diane (and Linda),
Thanks for the information about this. The timing is perfect since I’ve been discussing this issue with others recently. I’m assuming with the double opt in we will be able to “Keep” the names and emails of those who subscribe? I appreciate your keeping up with the new offerings and passing along the knowledge!

@Brad - we’ll be getting this for Whole Hog Bloggers
@Janet - yep, we were just talking about this - amazing, when it rains it pours… information
As double opt-ins, yes you’d have the safety of records to prove someone requested to be on your list. And keep records you must, just in case. However, until we install the plugin and test it out, I’m not 100% sure what happens next. Also, I read the page very early this a.m., so a return visit on our part is in order to see if there are additional details we need to know.
Hang tight!

This is a great site. I love it because you have all sorts of great information located in one place! I will try out some of your ideas and hopefully they will put me on the right track!

@hiniecy - thanks for the compliment! We do try extra hard. BTW, just read your most recent post and left my two cents, too. You might want to investigate (unless you’re already doing it) ways to write and make money online from your writing and blogging. Just do a search up above for “writing” or “make money” and you’re sure to find numerous ideas.
