The End Of The Olympics Gives Me Back My Life

Well, as you can see the entire week went by without a single post on this blog. The reasons are multi-fold, and I’m blaming the Olympics ;)

While we revisit and revamp our high-end services over at Market-For-Me, assist Whole Hog Blog networkers, field marketing and advertising phone calls, and in general provide marketing assistance, the one bump in my particular road has been those prime time showings of the Olympic events.

I haven’t a clue why, but I will sit there and watch the marathoners do their thing, mile after mile. I’ve even stayed up the past two nights praying I will get a tiny morsel of “table tennis” (or as we refer to it around here “ping pong”).

In fact, pursuit of watching some Olympic-style table tennis became more than a bit of an obsession for me. I really enjoy a good game of ping pong. I figured, wow!, those Olympic players must be amazing.

Well, unfortunately, I never got to see them play table tennis. First it was the late night volley ball playoff, last night, the men’s basketball team getting the gold (which even for someone who could give a hoot about basketball, I found it highly entertaining). However, at the stroke of 2 a.m. thinking “now oh now” I will get to see some table tennis…. yeah right. It’s amazing how many ways around not showing something the networks will go.

So, I’m reduced to digging up a video online and even that’s turning into slow torture. Here’s a link I found at NBCOlympics.com and if they ever get around to the actual table tennis part, I’ll be a happy individual.

Okay, the video has finally started, and to add to my misery I’m a tad disappointed :(

I wanted to see them standing miles back from the table really whacking that tiny little ball back and forth. They hug the table so close it’s sort of like watching giants play with miniature equipment. I’ve paused the video, but at least I found it. And I’ll pick it up later. Maybe it gets better.

However, overall, the Olympics have been a thing of beauty to watch. Phelps doing his gold thing, gymnastics, diving, all the things they let us see without staying up until 3 a.m. each night (which duh did I really need to do every night anyway??). I did miss out on some of the “lesser known” (or less endorsed??) events that really round out the Olympic experience.

With promises this year of better coverage, I’m still of a mind that from a marketing standpoint, and promises to the public, NBC and their ilk still have a long way to go. “All day” coverage, “24 hour coverage,” which they played up prior to the start of the Games turned out to be a dead end lead for most of us.

But, still it’s the Olympics, and you can’t help but love it.

More marketing information coming this week, I promise!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and thanks for reading. Be sure to COMMENT!

I’ve been glued to the Olympics too, but my free time is mostly at night so I haven’t been getting much sleep the past two weeks. I hate that they didn’t at least cover all the events, even the obscure ones that aren’t very popular here in the U.S. like table tennis, for instance. :)
