The Care and Feeding of Your Ventures Online
Written by diane on August 30, 2008 – 12:43 pm -Once again another week has come and gone without a single post made to this blog. I cannot believe it - and I’m highly disappointed in myself. I have reasons - wonderful clients and customers needing personalized attention - but not posting is having an effect on the headway we’ve made on this blog.
The obvious point is when you get traffic to anything - and in this case a blog - you must sustain that traffic or watch your Alexa ranking (some indication of the volume of traffic) rise and fall with the tides.
With Linda’s huge successes, and those of our fellow Whole Hog Bloggers, we strive to also stay on track with this whole “get traffic” thing
If you don’t post at regular intervals (and often) your traffic obviously fluctuates. The reasons for this are two-fold. Real human beings dropping by (thank you!), as well as each time you post (for Wordpress users properly set up in our case) and/or someone comments (again properly set up) your writing, once posted, is pinged (in the case of comments, multiple times if you get lucky and people comment - hint! hint!). Of course, when this happens, search engines and RSS feeders come running over to see what’s new.
How much of a difference can adding fresh material to a blog and/or website make?
Well at the start of this past week, our blog had an Alexa ranking in the very low 120,000s. After not posting for a week, it’s up (the reverse way you want it to go) ten thousand “points.”
Had I been diligent, the reverse would have been true; most likely a drop of at least a few thousand if not higher.
Remember, low score wins with an Alexa-type system. Think golf score and you know you’re on track with a winning website and/or blog.
This philosophy works for many aspects of marketing online. For affiliates, merely putting out one ad and hoping for the goods is a critical flaw I see happen all the time.
Keep in mind that your competition - be it website, blog, or fellow affiliate - waits for no man. Don’t be like I was this week, schedule the time to stay on top of things and watch your efforts pay off

You are really on spot with this post as I have seen folks who have not posted for a month go upwards so fast. In actuality, you are almost starting over. Thanks for all the kudos and all of your support.

Guilty again, but now that the school year has started I have four hours each week where, with luck, I can write to my hearts content. That’s the idea at least LOL!

I’m having a very hard time with this. I have a couple of blogs that are being neglected because I just can’t find the time to blog regularly on them. I have lots of ideas on draft for both blogs, but I just can’t seem to find the time to sit down and write.
I’ve been meaning to carve out some time exclusively for writing content, but haven’t found where to carve it out from yet.

@JMom - you and me both LOL! Since you can write and preschedule using Wordpress (not sure about the other blogging platforms), I also have the best of intentions to write posts ahead of time and schedule them to post.
You see how well that’s working LOL!
Thanks for stopping by!
