Rats No Joy Testing Traffic Potential Software For Website (Not Blog) Owners
On our last post I let you know I had purchased a software script that had the hallmarks of bringing traffic for those not blogging, but with full access to a website domain.
With high hopes, we installed the script exactly as indicated, and yes it did install. Logging in and looking around went very smoothly.
However, it all ended right about then…
After trying various ways to get the program to show up on multiple styles of website pages (not blogs), we have finally decided to call it quits.
The software script I speak of is Instant Site Comments.
The name alone sounds wonderful doesn’t it?!
In theory, this bit of script should have given us the ability to add a comments section to a standard HTML and/or PHP webpage. This means if you write an article, want it included on your website, and want to give people the freedom to interact with you… this sounded like the ticket.
In fact, I was looking forward to using it in multiple applications.
However, it doesn’t work – at least not for us.
Some of the websites (not blogs) we’ve created use XSitePro. Others are just standard, painstakingly hand coded, HTML webpages.
Again, in theory, it should have been a simple matter of entering the page we wanted the code displayed on and putting in the code to display the commenting area.
Unfortunately, the “insert code” instructions fall flat. The inside admin area references you to the reference manual; the reference manual is two sentences basically referring you back inside.
Hmmmm….
It could be that after the last version update in 2006 (that alone should have tipped me off really), it was just allowed to fall into ruin. I have no clue.
We followed installation instructions to the letter, and as stated above it installed without a problem. Our htaccess is fine, etc., etc.
While the price was “right” for this product, coming in at only $67. However… there are only so many hours in the day, and we just hate fighting with scripts! Too many other possibilities out there.
The bummer for us? Not only were we hoping to get interactivity going on a few of our websites (not blogs), but… we were hoping we’d be able to put an affiliate link into this post LOL!
We can, however, whole-heartedly recommend that if you want to create interactivity quickly and easily , put the search engines into a feeding frenzy, and generate traffic day in and day out, you just need to click that highlighted link for more information. We stand behind that 210%!!
Oh well…
We’ll keep looking for you!

Interesting post. The script sounds great, if it had done what it said it would! Off to check out your link…
@Lucy – yeah I had my fingers crossed, could have used it in so many different ways. Haven’t even heard back yet from the guy about a refund LOL! However, I’ve got that covered and I am giving him 48 hours to respond. I was a couch potato Sunday watching the Olympics, so maybe he was, too
Big rats though! Keeping my eyes open for something similar!
It’s the nature of the beast – how many times have we found ourselves in this type of situation – a great piece of software or script that to all intents and purposes (at least according to the sales letter) should work – but sadly and invariably doesn’t deliver the goods. I’d like a dollar for every time I’ve said “back to the drawing-board”. Sound familiar? Super post with lots of food for thought.
@Starbright – so very true! I really had my fingers crossed tight that as I went to get a refund the owner would write with tons of helpful suggestions first. However, after 72 hours of not hearing from him, I did have to go directly through clickbank for a refund. I hate doing that – I like to give the merchant a chance to respond and help, but …. I’ll keep looking, someone must have something similar. Any time one person gets the idea there are usually 1000 knock offs that come out, too, LOL!
Hey Diane!
You know I always love the info you give us!
Too bad. On to the next big fish for frying!
That’s a shame you were unable to get the script operated. I had the same issue so I had my own visitor comment PHP script built. If you’re still working with html or PHP page then this will work. You can check it out in action here:

Let me know and I will forward you a copy. Thanks for the post!
