The Internet Has No Secrets (Traffic or Otherwise) - Or - When To Stop Buying Into Things And Just Do It
NOTE: Before you get going, the title of this post is “secrets” not “methods.” People come up with all sorts of new ways of doing things, and open all sorts of new social media areas, and we give credit where credit is do. But they aren’t “secrets.”
* * * * * * * * * *
For years, and I do mean years, we’ve been online explaining, demonstrating, and, in many instances, doing the hands-on work to help you be successful online.
And, throughout these years, we - like you - have been (and continue to be) inundated with special reports, new software, e-books, videos and more all ranting and raving how this is “the one.”
Rarely is anything “new.”
Let me explain by example before I continue:
Ten years ago, a script was developed that shows webpages to people automatically and/or manually. Hundreds if not thousands of “startpage services” launched all over the net. They were free to join and gave you credits up front to get going. They had their hay day and then seemed to fade into the background for a while. Recently, within the past year or three, they resurfaced. Glitzier than their predecessors. These very same programs, glammed up, are now called “traffic generators” by this new wave of entrepreneurs.
Same product, same service, just spiced up and renamed.
The same goes for most of the material launched online nowadays.
As pointed out by the latest and greatest thing launching today, people are more than willing to buy into anything that has a new and improved name.
Now, I am not slamming this new launch. In fact, you’ve got to admire the living daylights out of anyone who’s got the wherewithal to come up with a new twist on an old thing. The latest is to reinvent the (dreaded) word “research,” dress it up and rename it “results detection.”
How clever is that? LOL!
Honestly, the guy is going to make a fortune today - all because of a fancy set of videos and a presentation on common sense marketing that - if you’ve done any tiny bit of RESEARCH yourself - will be things you already know.
For instance, and I’m not giving anything away it’s in the pre-launch videos, writing and scheduling your blog posts days, weeks, or months in advance will save you time. Well duh! Of course they will, and of course you can do this, especially if you’re using Wordpress. It also states that writing or creating everything yourself may be more work than you can handle - and the solution? Outsourcing (a service we’ve been providing for years).
Then you have the “revolutionary” idea of plugins. Sorry, I have to chuckle because if you could take a peek inside our admin area and those within our Whole Hog Blogs network, you’d be cracking up, too! We are the plugin kings when it comes to optimizing your blog.
The list continues. But the point we’re making here in this post is simple. With an entire internet at your disposal, a bit of imagination, the ability to understand what you’re after and the means to go about researching for that information (it’s called a search engine), the world is your oyster.
What happens is too many people spend too much time buying into the latest and greatest and NEVER APPLY the information. Some never even LOOK INSIDE.
“Collecting” information is not the same as learning and applying information. A collector has tons of ebooks, software, reports, and more on their computer, but still hasn’t gotten to first base.
The person who (finally?) says, “Hey I’ve already got that information on my hard drive,” digs it up, dusts it off, READS, and applies the information doesn’t need MORE information.
There are no secrets - traffic or otherwise - on the net. There are people willing to take action and those not willing to lift a finger to help themselves.
Will we be buying into this launch today? The answer is no. The screen shot clearly shows what’s what inside, and we (and most likely you, too) have been doing it for years.
Keep in mind that if YOU decide to buy into it, it will not magically get done for you. You will not be able to avoid that four letter word… work.
Apply to build. Be willing to stop spending and start doing. You have at your fingertips, this very moment, the key to create hundreds and thousands of webpages (yes just like the video tells you). Yes, a single-page website is not enough. Yes, to really draw the attention of search engines you need pages and pages of information. The easiest way to do this is with a concept so amazingly simple. It’s called blogging.
And yes, we are more than willing to go one-on-one with you, help you develop your ideas, your passions, and launch a successful blog that will pull in traffic the likes of which you’ve (most likely) never seen before. Even existing bloggers benefit!
Isn’t it really just time to stop the nonsense, anti up to the plate, and get to work? When will enough “stuff” be enough?
We do want to give kudos to this new launch. We’re hoping their heart is in the right place (and know their bank account is now bursting
).
Oh, and here’s something else to contemplate before you get back to work…

Hi Diane,
I’m so sick of all the hype out there! Most of it is by no means cheap. Lol…You get what you pay for. Not necessarily so on the net. They take your money and you’re still no farther ahead than before you spent your money. Buyer beware…it still takes WORK, and willingness to learn. Oh, and TIME to devote to it…Not a lot of time, but enough to put forth effort!

Some of these launches are just like your picture, SHARK BAIT!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
@Barbara and Linda - agreed, much of it is worthless, but there are things that come along well worth the money.
I’m not saying this new launch isn’t worth the money, I’m sure they put a ton of effort into pulling it all together.
My question/problem with this is that most people really will not understand what it is they are buying into.
Unfortunately, most think the internet is “quick and easy.”
The internet is a job like any other job.
Even the guru types spent years online before they “appeared to make money overnight.”
A good, honest video to watch is Lisa’s http://blog.2createawebsite.com/2008/06/03/the-story-behind-my-6-figure-income-video/ that reinforces my statements.

Diane,
This post is fabulous. I love writing blog posts that squash the hype because it’s so easy for people to get sucked in. Any time I see an ad or ebook that says something about “secrets” or something similar my “hype meter” goes waaaay up. Imagine the productivity if people stopped buying these hyped up products and “get to work” as you put it.

Oh so true! I know I got sucked in by hype many times at the beginning. I hope lots of newbies read your post. It’ll hopefully save them much frustration.
Business on the internet takes work just like any business. Nothing is easy.

@Lisa so good to see you again! I hope others do watch your video - it strikes right at the heart of “internet troubles.”
@Pam if I had a nickel… LOL!

Actually, if I could afford it, I would buy it. John’s stuff is good. Look at what he’s able to accomplish - even though it annoys the heck out of us with all these emails.
I mean, how do you automate your twitter and facebook so they update when you update your blog? I have no clue. And making sure your last twitter and facebook posts of the day have a link back to your blog - great tip. Crumbs.
How do you manage millions of jv partners and affiliates?
And how do you manage a launch like this at an Internet cafe in Rome?
I know, he has staff and designers, and all this stuff we can’t afford, but still - he’s got a pretty good track record of successful students.
John is one of the couple that I would buy from if I could.
But you’re absolutely right about buying all this stuff and enver putting it to use. I’ve got all this stuff on video creation because someday I’ll get around to doing videos. When? Who knows.
Maybe I can cash in all this stuff that I haven’t used or that is really total garbage, and buy John’s set? Maybe John will take trade-ins? What an idea that would be

@Carole - you are right. There are some people out there who are much easier to learn from - and we’re not knocking anyone even if this post suggests so. It’s just that - and those on high will even tell you so - much on the net is just repackaged. Strangely enough the stuff that is “on the cutting edge” generally turns out to be black hat. NOT that John’s stuff is - but again the information is freely available. He just had the wherewithal to package it all together
As for Twitter, it’s a plugin for those using wordpress (we use WP, so maybe blogger and typepad or moveable type or… also have one, we do not know).
The link to get it is http://blog.victoriac.net/blog/twitter-updater (on our post on June 26th we wrote all about it).
As for setting up the link back in Twitter, what he’s referring to is your profile and filling it out with a url to what site you want to have primarily focused on at Twitter.
Having the plugin isn’t enough though. You must be willing to actively work it to gain followers at least initially. You can use the plugin exclusively to post your latest post, or remind people should you edit a pre-existing one. It’s all done automatically. You make sure you have a Twitter account created, take the email address you use at Twitter and just plop it into a field on the Twitter plugin inside your admin area.
The one thing most people fall short on when they join a social community is fully completing their profile. I have yet to see a social community profile area that does not ask you for a url to your website(s). An important thing to not forget to do.
I agree, too, that it was a team effort most likely that put a program like this together. If not, he is one talented guy!
What information like this serves to do is either nudge people or expose people to ideas. Once again, all the information in the world isn’t going to be enough if a person never applies it. Being a collector is not enough.
And, just a reminder, this was NOT a slam against anyone. Free enterprise is a good thing

You mean all this time I’ve been thinking that the stuff I’ve purchased would do it all on it’s own?
SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
