When Ducking A Guru Might Be The Wrong Move To Make
If you’re tracking stats on your own blog, and you should be, there will be posts that you make where you notice lots of activity. Ideally, you (like us) have your hopes up each time you post that your readers will do more than read (which is always cool), and stay to strike up a conversation with you (in the form of comments).
Well we’re no different than you
We track things. We love to track things! It just may be an obsession around here!
So in going back through our visitor logs, there is a striking up swing whenever we talk about ways to supplement your income online. No, we’re not affiliates of any “get rich” thing. We don’t believe you belong in a program like that until you’ve got “marketing and advertising” on the net under your belt. In fact, while tons of things are floating around about the Law of Attraction, not that long ago I read something the person calls, “The Law of Progression.”
What is The Law of Progression?
Simply put, The Law of Progression means you must prove to yourself that you can make $1 first online before “the universe” will allow you to progress to the next stage. That next stage might be your next $10 or first $100.
But ultimately, there is a “law” in place. Those trying to circumvent “the law” often find themselves frustrated and even angry. They feel cheated and betrayed. Perhaps rightly so, perhaps not.
We advocate staying firmly within your own financial budget online. Promises of big bucks should be looked at with a jaundice eye. Plunking down $5,000 (oh yeah people do it all the time), before a person has proven to themselves they are capable of making even a single $1 is, yes I’ll say it, foolhardy in the extreme.
Which, finally, leads me to today’s post (I had a majority of it written several days ago and put on the back burner for a few other posts in between).
There are many, many spots on the web where you can make yourself money by putting yourself to work. For bloggers, these spots include SocialSpark and the AssociatedContent to name but a few. You get paid to write posts. It’s as simple as that. Many services will also pay you upfront to write material for them that they may (or may not) use at some later date. Yes, writing whatever comes to you and then selling it for a profit is a great way to supplement (or start) your income online.
But that’s not all. If you’re a website owner, or an affiliate without a website or blog (shame on you LOL), there are still numerous ways to make a buck (or $10 or $25 or $250 and up) online.
No matter what your “status online” may be, here’s a service that you may already be familiar with, maybe not, where your skills are welcomed with open arms – and you get paid for your skills, too.
I speak of…. Guru
Guru (and another coming readily to mind is eLance, but my experience is with Guru) is a place where people go to find other people (read you) willing to “go to work for them.” This is called outsourcing, and you can be a part of the outsource community (where many make big big bucks helping others!).
You become the outsourced-to person – freelancing your talents to others in need – again for money.
Guru has multiple levels of skill areas – along with a wide range of fields for you to choice from. When you sign up, you pick your field(s). As you can tell, writing is a passion of mine, so I signed up under the Writer/Editor service(s).
They have a free signup service – though your choices of bidding on job assignments will be much less than the person who signs up (for the year) as a “professional.” Keep in mind, this signup fee (like all things you pay for online within reason) is a business write off (at least for those in the U.S.), so keep your receipts for each April 15th.
Then what happens is you’ll start to get job/assignment offers in your inbox. To further emphasize the post, I’ve included several excerpts that arrived the other day. All these possible ways to make money by using my talents arrived in ONE (1) email. And the emails come all day long!
Okay, here’s the sampling. Now remember these are for writing assignments (and areas related) because that is what I selected when I signed up. They have other fields, if writing ain’t your thing. (I’ve included just small portions of each, not the entire email. You get much more information in each email to help you make up your mind whether to bid the job or not.):
SAMPLE (BUT REAL) OUTSOURCED JOB OFFERS
Resume Writer:
“I need someone to help write resumes. This is a part time job. Sometimes there will be 30 resumes in a week or 5 resumes in a week. The job pays $10.00 per resume and they need to be done within a couple hours of receiving them. A short cover letter will also be needed with each resume. Need someone with resume writing experience, because these resumes are going to clients so they need to be able to stand out. Even though this is part time work, it is permanent work.”
Business Writer:
“Business writing required to update business industry reports. Also be responsible for the research gathering portion of the project. Reports are usually 2-4 pages with charts and are updated annually. Reports cover a variety of industries and we have prevous year reports to serve as examples. I Have uploaded a couple of sample scan reports. This is an ongoing project with new reports needed monthly probably 45-50 reports a year.”
Editor:
“I’m part of a business that is looking to outsource editing at an affordable rate. I ‘m looking to test out the capabilities of a few different editing firms. I will be working with essays and other written documents and am looking to develop an ongoing relationship with an overseas editing team.
I’ll gauge the quality of your editing staff by looking at work that you’ve done in the past. In addition to seeing your ability I need to know your rates, your turn around time/page, and your maximum capacity.
While initially the needs will be around 100-200 pages a month, by September we will be looking to do many multiples of this figure.
Editing needs will consist of the following:
Formatting
Spelling
Grammar
I am not looking for people to create content.
Preferably your rates will be stated in the following format:
rate for 1-500 pages/month :
rate for 500-1000 pages/month :
rate for 1000-1500 pages / month :”
Sales Writer:
“I need a very professional sales letter to give to my qualified prospects to take to their corporate decision makers. There is no need for the writer to have a background in my product/service because the readers won?t have the background either. The ability to explain the impact a purchase decision will have on their bottom line is more important.
Here are a few sort intros:
o I need 4 articles
o I need 10 snippets written
o I need several 500 word articles
o I need 10 PLR articles about Australia
o I need assistance with already written children’s book
o I need a standard email response written
o I need a freelance writer for website content
o I need a generic software template
o I need an SEO person”
END OF SAMPLES
The list of jobs in just this one email sent to me goes on an on. Again, this was just one email I received, and Guru keeps sending them all day long. There were three total when I logged into my Outlook – I just picked this one at random to make our point.
Remember the point of this post, which is…
While you are scouting out that “big opportunity” online, make sure you’re helping that “Law of Progression” out. If making money online, proving to yourself you can do it, has been an issue for you – or you can and do make money and would like to make more – use the resources on this blog.
For many, you really do need to prove to yourself you are capable of making your first $1 or first $100. Once you do, something (sounds crazy but it’s true) happens almost like magic! The whole internet world opens to you. You know you can, you prove it to yourself, and the skies the limit!
Start the wheels of the universe up for yourself, and be happy online!

How you packed that much information in one post is beyond me. I’m bookmarking so I can come back and click links to explore at a later date. I’ll need some time to really investigate these sites.
Thank you for the information. It will be used!

@Saravanan you are most welcome
We’ve used Guru quite a bit for getting our out projects outsourced, when we run out of time, or need too much and help with things. The system works very well. The bidding process can be tricky, since you definitely want to get paid what you’re worth. And you are up against competition while bidding. If you stick with it, and get your reputation rolling with them, people will start coming to you. Having proofs to show for a particular project is also a good thing. Being able to show examples of your work, etc., help pull it all together

That’s seriously great. When its competition… I don’t know why I have this inferior feeling. Probably I’m not as good as the others listed.

@Saravanan everyone has their strong points, and the only way to continue to build those strengths is by exercising farther and farther outside your comfort range. It may take a bit to get recognized in some places, but not taking action means… well nothing happens
The thing I learned years and years ago starting online is the worst anyone can say is no. But there’s always the next opportunity to prove yourself. Sit and reflect on your strengths, know your weaknesses and build both.
