How Even a Couch Potato Marketer Can Gather Intel and Advertise for Free
[My preamble]
To all the bloggers visiting, reading and commenting, not only do we thank you but we salute you
And to all our not-currently-blogging visitors, not only do we thank you, but we encourage you to take a hard look at the material being provided on this blog. If you’re still wondering “should you start a blog” you are missing the ride of the century (and also the crest of the wave?) by delaying. Each day someone somewhere is putting up the perfect blog in your field or passion, and is, therefore, going to be lightyears ahead of you (assuming they know the “tricks of the trade”) before you even make up your mind.
[The guts of this post]
That said (it’s so important, it’s why we keep “harping at you!”) today I’m going to re-examine a social media spot explored several moons ago, and provide you with proof why this one is worth a little effort.
Our Qassia account was created February 29, 2008. At the time, we only listed this blog in their system (today I added Whole-Hog-Blogs). At the time, I even added my “intel” to their system – can’t remember what I wrote about and I’ll tell you why in a second – and did my part under the “Screen These Intel” in our account.
Now screening intel means that someone has taken the time to write some amount of material (Qassia isn’t looking for the great American novel, but you can if you’d like), and the screening part means that inside your account, to the left, you’ll find these pieces of information written about by someone else. You click, read, vote. Head back for the next intel. Each time you do your part, you put “dollars” into your account. The more “money” the higher your website or blog moves (apparently) up their system results.
Okay, easy enough.
The next part to Qassia is your ability to write “intel” of your own. However, as I may have indicated earlier in our March 1st post, you need to have a tough hide when you do write and submit. We’re not at all sure the people voting are being “fair,” (I’m coming to that) and it may be Qassia’s system is slightly askew, but that’s really neither here nor there.
The point is this (and here’s our proof) – Qassia is picked up amazingly quick by Google. Today’s check in a broad sense reveals 317 links in Google tying our blog with Qassia. Not too shabby for maybe 20 minutes of my time spent several months ago, right? Especially since this is the first time I’ve logged back in since that March 1st post – yikes!
Imagine taking five minutes a week and doing your thing in Qassia. I’d be willing to bet that the 317 would be closer to 1500 (or more?) if I’d only made the time.
Here’s the rub though – for me – which may not make a hill of beans difference to you (or might). Logging in and voting is very easy – and fast – do a few and your standing in the community rises. The crux is that I really like to write (can you tell?) and I think we impart solid information that is useful and helpful – and more often than not FREE for the reading, taking and using.
So what happened when I did my first (and only) post in Qassia? I received average to less than average marks – I was totally flabbergasted (ask Scott lol!).
The screeners were not READING – yet they were voting – if they had they would have realized the valuable information they were being given. And… sorry, but when I put my heart into something, I’d like a FAIR vote on the information LOL!
So I haven’t written anything else. But today, logging into Qassia again, I carefully read my assigned Intel. I gave honest votes to the writers (one guy did a heck of a fine job discussing cpanel hosting). This two minutes of my time addded more Qassia bucks to our account. And, I’m marking today on my calendar. I’ll continue to make a point of logging in every now and then for the next few weeks. At the end of that undetermined time (4 weeks?), I’ll do another broad search in Google for us.
We shall see… But, instead of waiting 4 weeks for results, why not start YOUR experiment today, too! Then come back and give us your “report!”
Simple sites like Jumptags, SpicyPage, and Qassia (there are more but the list would be too long right now) are incredible for bringing the search engines to you (almost) effortlessly. Our suggestion: get cracking!
LIKE THIS POST? Please remember that you might forget while surfing and reading blogs to MARKET yourself and your website. That’s what that comment box is for LOL! Respond to the current post, leave your name, (email that we do not use), and website/blog link.
How easy is that?!

Came in through Entrecard. I heeded your plea and stayed to look around. Wound up faving this blog on Tenhnorati. Word to the wise- if you’re here, stick around.
Good Morning Michelle! Wow, thank you so much for the bookmarking, the staying and reading, and the marvelous compliment! We really do try very, very hard and comments like yours make it all worth while
Hey Diane!
Lots to absorb here, but I’m sure I’ll get it before it’s all said and done.
As you know, I’m more of a writer than a technical thinker. In fact, I’m usually call a “thinker” by people who lisp!
You’re in Boardman Country!
Brad
@brad you crack me up! read your comment to my hubby and after laughing (and trying the word with a lisp) he also thinks you’re a great writer!
