How To Use Entrecard Effectively Without Resorting to Drop Sites
Written by diane on April 23, 2008 – 2:00 pm -This may seem like the most obvious to some, but other Entrecard users might be “surprised” at this twist to visiting other people’s blogs and dropping cards.
Log into your own Entrecard account.
Using either the cards shown across the top or even starting with a current advertiser, right click on the card and open that site’s information in a new window (you could even just visit your own blog and start there, but logging into Entrecard is fastest).
Then (remember you are in a “new window” at this point), click on the link out to that particular blog. Find the Entrecard widget and drop your card.
NOTE: LEAVE THAT CURRENT BLOG OPEN IN YOUR BROWSER! Later you can revisit it to comment, but at a minimum you will allow the window to be open long enough to help NOT penalize the blog owner (read up on “bounce rates” to learn what I mean). Be kind
Leave the window OPEN and RIGHT click on the current advertiser who’s card is showing on that widget.
(Highly suggested: Use Firefox and make sure your newly visited sites will open in a new TABBED window or use the RIGHT CLICK method above.)
Drop your card on this next site and click on the advertiser doing his or her thing on this new widget.
Once you get a rhythm going, it’s easy to go from blog to blog to blog. If you “get stuck” (and you will every now and then), just start the process over with a new choice from your dashboard or under CAMPAIGN.
This way you don’t keep visiting the same ones over and over (unless you really want to), and get to add numerous visits quickly and easily.
Here’s another suggestion that really is well worth your time and (no) trouble:
As you close the Tabbed Windows one by one, take a look around and see if there isn’t something you’d like to put your two cents in about… in other words leave a comment!
It’s sort of amazing how few people are really using Entrecard to its greatest advantage. A quick, simple, super easy way to FIND WAYS TO COMMENT on other people’s blogs. You won’t always get a “follow” link, but you’ll be doing yourself and your blog/website a huge favor in terms of word of mouth advertising about YOU.
So let’s recap:
1. Drop Entrecards efficiently
2. Comment for personal name branding
3. Comment for backlinking
Do this each day for 5-10 minutes and you’ll have 100s if not 1000s of backlinks for yourself in a very, very short amount of time!
Enjoy!

This is exactly the method I use to drop my Entrecards. I also use Firefox and it works great. I do need to try to leave more comments though.

Hi,
I would also recommend outsourcing a lot of these repetitive tasks, preferably on a per card basis…

@don - Thanks for the read and the comments! Yep using a resource to its fullest is always best - a very ergonomic approach to working
@linda - Also thank you, actually I also do my advertising this way and forgot to mention it. Glad you did!
@allen - Outsourcing where appropriate is a necessary use of resources online. Don’t know if this is one of those cases or not though, since five minutes really gets a lot done. Also, when commenting, leaving your personal mark speaks volumes. As a side note, visited yours, but I couldn’t see the entrecard widget? Might be me.

I had to laugh at Linda’s comment, cos that was what I was gonna ask! And I too need to comment more often, especially recently cos I’m working on a new project and time is tight.
I’m torn two ways about leaving comments on unrelated sites, precisely because of the back-links. I suppose I could always leave a comment without a URL attached?
Decisions, decisions…

Hi Layne! I guess what I’d say is that it’s sort of courtesy to leave a link because I personally like to the visit the sites of the people kind enough to leave their input. So while yes it is “marketing,” it’s also a great way to let the blog owner know who you are - what you are into. Just my thoughts on it.

This was an excellent post. Most of the times I am reading the latest post and when I have great days a lot of my dropped blogs get a comment. Although doing this every day would be a little bit tough

Thanks Ana! And thank you for stopping by
What I do, and tell our clients to do (or suggest really) is first thing in the morning log into entrecard and leave yourself logged in. Then start with the card even on your own site, click out and continue to follow for X number of cards.
Even if you have just five minutes (or 2 or 3) you can drop quite a few cards in more of a randomly visited way then following some of these “open and drop drop drop” methods.
This way you stand a greater chance of coming across all sorts of blogs of interest, versus staying within a very narrow category.
Hope you’re having a great weekend!
All the best,
Diane

Diane, thanks for your answer, this is exactly what I am doing
When having a break I am dropping back on all my inbox and later the day when being free I check out other sites to finish my daily 300 goal. So far this system is working well. And like that I even have time to comment on some blogs

You’re ahead of me then Ana because I come no where near the allowed 300 a day. Guess I’m reading and commenting too much lol! I just cannot help myself
Maybe I should pick a day a week (or two) and do nothing but drop, but again I just don’t think I’m built that way - I’ve gotta talk LOL!
April 27th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Oh, this is a really interesting discussion. Do you have a chat? LOL
I am having a lot of serious dropper who drop on me every day and who do not update their content every day, so it’s quite manageable, also not for all of the blogs I have something to add. (sorry, but stock markets or sports are not my matter
But 300 is definitely my limit and I am happy it’s not more, it is already cutting off enough from the cats’ and TV time

It’s great to have someone actively chat for a bit, fun!
Feel free to put down some of your favorite places/blogs to visit! I’d love to check them out
